Châtel is a traditional French alpine village and is also part of the Portes du Soleil, one of the largest ski regions in Europe, covering 12 resorts including Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets in France and Champéry, Torgon and Morgins in Switzerland. In all there are over 400 miles of ski slopes with over 200 lifts all accessible using a single, inclusive ski-pass. Châtel itself offers free buses to the lifts, a cheaper Châtel area ski-pass, and at Super-Châtel / Barbossine there's a south-facing snow park for boarders and a specific beginners area. It is possible to ski to the rear of the apartment block by going slightly off-piste.
